Palisade, home of world famous peaches, is located in Colorado's Plateau region which is 4,727 feet above sea level. It's characterized by dozens of separate plateaus that range from about 5,000 to 11,000 feet high and are arranged in tiers and groups, separated or cut by deep canyons formed by tributaries of the Colorado River. Rugged hills and a few mountain ranges rise from the Colorado Plateau.
Palisade's sculptured appearance was formed by the uplifting of the area combined with localized erosion and the down cutting of the Colorado River. It was first inhabited in 1881. By 1894, the first peach, pear, apple and grape orchards appeared and established Palisade as today's Peach Capital.
